Venus Issue: Generative AI to Revive Historical Letterforms

Research & Strategy,  Generative AI Workflow,  Interactive Installation
My thesis explores how generative AI can make a meaningful impact in highly specialized creative fields—particularly typography. In font design, text-to-image AI tools have the potential to expand the visual archive of historical letterforms, using original variations as anchor points to regenerate and reimagine typographic traditions.

Introduction Video

Generative AI Workflow
I created a design workflow that combines generative AI tools with Carolingian manuscript initials, using each tool’s limitations as creative prompts. The goal wasn’t a finished font, but to explore letterforms that blur the line between inspiration and experimentation.

3D Letterpress
To take the idea further, I made a 3D letterpress that blends analog and technology. This became a creative artifact and a way to show the concept in action.

Installation
I envisioned an interactive generative AI tool that reimagines historical letterforms, reviving them as inspiration for designers exploring speculative approaches.

Interactive Typography
I developed an interactive typography system for my graduation exhibition, allowing visitors to manipulate letters using hand gestures—pinch to type, backspace, and space.
